our Mission

Social Responsibility

At Patella, we believe that when we take care of people, they in turn take care of you and pay it forward to the society at large. That is why social responsibility is important to us.

  • It is the believe that has led to us currently housing about 50% of our staff. We do what we can to ensure that they are well-taken care of and paid sustainable wages.
  • We love that work we do connects us with so many hardworking market women and youth in society. Buying from these women, who typically are the breadwinners of their families, and working with these youth, isn’t just a responsibility to us, but a privilege. We are also constantly seeking out suitable sponsorship opportunities to train and give more young women employable crafting and entrepreneurship skills.
  • We believe giving back isn’t necessarily always to people and society, but to the environment. By using recycled glass beads and reusing quality repurposed leather, we play our role in taking care of this beautiful earth, on which we live and source our unique materials.

Our Stuff

We love that we get to hire young local talent to keep their skills within the Ghanaian economy. Our stuff are trained in employable skills such as craftsmanship, store management and others, and are given the chance to grow in leadership, and to continue supporting their families. It’s great seeing how many have grown over the years to take up new responsibilities in out little Patella family.

Our Materials

Beads

We source local and recycled glass beads made in Ghana. This supports the bead-making economy in Ghana and supports numerous women who spend time handcrafting them. Using recycled glass reduces the amount of waste in our landfills and saves our environment from the several thousands of years that wold be spent waiting for the glass to gradually decompose.

Wax Print

We source fabrics from women in the local markets with whom we have formed relationships over the years. These women are a major part of our supply chain, and they love that their wares go into the creation of beautiful accessories that end up in homes all over the world.

Leather

We source leather locally from traders of repurposed leather from Italian factories. We mix and match these scrap leather pieces, that would have otherwise ended up in landfills and taken millions of years to decompose, with our other materials to make your unique Kua pieces. We believe that through fashion and more conscious sourcing of materials, we help prevent the terrible trash disposal problem in Ghana, and the world at large. We find the beauty hidden in trash and help the world to see it one bag at a time.

With your patronage, we are spreading independence and sustainability. Our simple aim is to make you look and feel good while socially responsible.
